The super middleweight champions fought at a news conference Tuesday to promote their upcoming title unification fight, and the swap left Plant with a gash under his right eye.
Fighters scuffled after exchanging verbal barbs during a ceremonial face-off before the news conference began in the garden of the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Apparently, in response to plante’s comments about Alvarez’s mother, the Mexican superstar shoved plante with both hands.

“You can say anything you want to me, but not my mom,” Alvarez said afterward.
Plante stepped up and threw a left hook to Alvarez, who mostly dodged and hit Plante in the face with his left. Plant said he took a hit with his sunglasses, which got stuck on his cheek and caused a cut.

“We were just saying something, just normal back-and-forth banter, and then he did what he did,” Plant said.

Alvarez posted a terse video of the commotion on Twitter: “Don’t talk about my mom.”
The soldiers’ camp eventually separated them, but Plant was left to gently wipe blood from his cheeks. He eventually donned dark glasses and took part in a cold, combative news conference in which Plant repeatedly accused Alvarez of doping violations in 2018.

Alvarez (56-1-2, 38 KOs) will fight for his WBC, WBA and WBO super middleweight titles against undefeated IBF champion Plante (21-0, 12 KOs) from Tennessee at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. Las Vegas.
Plant repeatedly called Alvarez and coach Eddie Reynoso “liars.” Alvarez was banned for six months after clenbuterol was detected in a drug test, although the Mexican champion claimed the banned substance came from contaminated meat.

“This sport is too dangerous for people to be positive,” Plant said. “He’s a liar. It’s not worth discussing. Has he been suspended? Did he test positive? It has nothing to do with what I said. This is about what the (sports) commission said. You have to work it out with them, not me.”
Asked about Alvarez’s past positive test and canello’s training partner Oscar Valdez’s recent failed doping test, Reynoso responded angrily. Speaking in Spanish, Reynoso did not directly respond to Plant’s comments, instead profanely suggesting plant was not training hard enough to win in seven weeks.

“Taking illegal drugs doesn’t happen because you have confidence,” Plant said. “It’s because you’re afraid. That only makes me more confident. I have given so much to this sport and the moment I beat him, it will be my life’s work. It will etch my name in the history books, and that’s what I’m here to do.”
Alvarez is unbeaten in 15 bouts since his only career loss to Mayweather in 2013. He insulted Plant after their physical exchange, but his public comments were more brief.

“For me, it’s for history, it’s for Mexico, it’s for my team,” he said. “I’ll knock this guy out in less than eight rounds.”
