Jurgen Klopp praised Thiago Alcantara for making a magic impact against Porto.
The Reds went through a number of adjustments ahead of a busy game and struggled to get into form at Anfield on Wednesday night before the Spaniard broke the deadlock with a perfect strike from outside the penalty area.
Klopp said: “Anyone who has seen Tiago in training knows he is capable of doing that.
“But even with this technology, it doesn’t happen very often that he can fire a thunderball like this.
“It was a good moment and a great goal. Sometimes we need some luck; [Porto] broke through and had a great chance to counter attack, but it was difficult to defend but didn’t score.
“We scored two goals and dominated the second half.
Porto squandered a number of chances before Liverpool’s opening game and Mohamed Salah’s goal secured a 2-0 win and maintained their 100 percent record in the Champions League group stages.
But Klopp was careful not to praise his rotation too much, which included teenager Tyler Morton on his European debut.
“We could have lost the game tonight, we missed the chances they could have scored, so we shouldn’t have taken too many chances because we were lucky in some moments,” he added.
“We’ve had moments where we weren’t good at it. To be honest, I didn’t expect it tonight because we changed a few decisive things.
“We didn’t expect the boys to become a press machine right away, but they will grow into the game, that’s the way it is. A lot of good things happened tonight but I’m not sure we should make any more mistakes this way or that way.
“We will know at the end of the season, but we are in a good moment and we should do everything to keep it going.”
