Shine Trader Limited reports:
The Boston Celtics signed Broderick Thomas to a two-way deal earlier this week, and we learned his jersey number Thursday. Keith Smith of the Celtics blog says Thomas will wear the number 97, which would make him the first Celtics player to do so.
For those watching at home, Broderick Thomas is clearly wearing no. 97 to play for the Boston Celtics. According to @bball_ref, he is the first player in Celtics history to be drafted no. 97.
The 24-year-old guard would also be the first player in NBA history to wear that number, which is somewhat surprising according to basketball Reference, although you don’t often see numbers from the ’90s.
Thomas will become the ninth Celtics player in history to wear a jersey in the 1990s. The most recent example is Evan Fournier, who wore No. 94 when he was signed by the C team at last season’s trade deadline. Fournier signed with the New York Knicks as a free agent this summer.
The most worn jersey among the Celtics’ current players is No. 71, worn by point guard Dennis Schroder.
